TY Ski Trip to Folgaria, Italy
26 March, 2024
Folgaria, Italy was the destination for the CBS’ first Ski trip in years. 71 4th years and 7 teachers donned the salopettes, snoods and skis and headed for the slopes of Fondo Grande. Arriving on Saturday evening we were fitted with our gear and prepared for the next 6 days skiing. For four hours each day we were taught by the wonderful staff of Ski School Folgaria who took us from barely being able to stand on the baby slopes to parallel skiing with confidence down the reds. Early in the week there was plenty of snow ploughing and falls but with each day confidence and ability grew. We were incredibly fortunate with the weather receiving fresh snowfall most nights providing ideal conditions each morning. Each evening entertainment was provided by the many talented students and staff singing and playing the guitar with all song requests being performed amazingly. Well done to all singers and musicians. Our second last day skiing included a timed slalom, with medals being presented to the top 3 in each group, however, the ski school built the anticipation by not telling us the results until the last day. Our journey home included a detour into the beautiful city of Verona. The teachers took their groups on a walking tour of the city which included a visit to Juliet’s balcony from Romeo and Juliet which they studied for Junior Cycle. Thanks to the staff of TopFlight, especially our Italian Rep Silvia and the hotel staff for looking after us all week. Thanks to the 7 teachers who gave their time to facilitate the trip and Ms. Groome who also organised it. Well done to all the students for their energy and engagement with the lessons all week, I’m sure they all had a memorable trip. I’ve a feeling they’ll all be hitting the slopes again in the future.
