2019 Adventure Journey in Kerry
Gaisce - The Presidents Award
Gaisce is a challenge from the President of Ireland to the young people of Ireland to better themselves through personal development and community involvement.
Gaisce can be completed at three different levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level requires participants to complete Physical Recreation, Community Involvement and Personal Skill activities. They are required to complete 13 weeks in two of the activites and 26 weeks in the third activity at the Bronze level. They are also required to complete an Adventure Journey.
At the begining of TY students are encouraged to sign up to the programme, they are assisted in creating the best Gaisce experience for them by a number of teachers who act as their PALs (President Award Leaders), these PALs check in with them weekly and offer advice and guidance as needed.
On completion of the activites the year is finished with the Adventure Journey, a 2 day 1 night trip including camping and hill walking, for many the highlight of their TY year. Here the students are encouraged to demonstrate some of the skills they learned over the year through cooking the groups meals or providing the musical enterainment around the camp fire.
In the past the trip has taken our students on a cycle around Killarney, Valentia Island, Port Magee and Caherdaniel. Recently students walked part of the Kerry Way and climbed Carrantoohil.
Interested Senior Cycle students should contact Ms. O'Neill or Mr. Wall
