Erasmus +

Erasmus +:

A group of 25 students from our 4 partner schools arrived on Sunday 1st December. There were 15 girls and 10 boys aged 15-17.  They were met by their host families and stayed locally for the week.  Each morning they accompanied their partners to school and took part in sample lessons and gave lessons on their home countries.

The visitors are part of a bigger Erasmus Plus project which kicked off the first phase of the exchanges here in Midleton.  Our students will in turn be hosted in the other countries over the next two years. The students really gelled well and the girls were a welcome addition in the corridors of CBS.

The theme for the project in Ireland was EU and economics.  Students collaborated in international groups and researched and presented a wide variety of topics including Brexit, GDP, trade flows and tourism and students took a voxpop on the streets of Midleton. Our special guest Dr. Brunt (former head of UCC Geography department) addressed the students and complimented them on their interpersonal skills and on their presentations and how they coped with the content.

It was not all work however.  The visitors did manage a cultural trip to Cobh to visit the Titanic museum and a walking tour of Cork city including UCC, Fitzgerald's Park and a ring of the Shandon Bells.  Host families gathered in the school for a céilí and a great evening ag damhsa was had by all.

International teachers prepare for the Erasmus+ Programme (included CBS teachers Ms. Carol Fynn, Ms. Ellen Barrett and Deputy Principal Mr. Niall Ahern).
