Senior Boys XC Team
All-Ireland Cross Country Championships 2012
A great day for CBS at the Irish Cross-Counrty Schools Athletics finals which were held on the grounds of St.Mary's College, Galway on Sat 10th March. It was a great occasion for all the athletes at Senior and Minor level who competed and represented their school.
All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country Minor Boys Gold-Medalist
Ferghal Curtin (Midleton CBS)
For Ferghal Curtin (1st Yr) it was a magical occasion as he won the gold medal at Minor level and in the process led the team to All-Ireland Gold in the team event. Ferghal added this to Irish U-14 title he captured earlier this year at the Club/County All-ireland X-Country championships. Yet to be confirmed, this was probably the schools first individual All-Ireland gold at Cross-Country, this despite some very notable past pupils who went onto to represent Ireland at International level.
The members of the victorious Minor team were: Ferghal Curtin, Caolann O'Brien, Michael Kelly, Edward Leahy, Dylan Murphy, Luke Duggan Murray and Seán O'Meara.
The Victorious All-Ireland Schools Minor Boys Cross Country Team
L to R: Liam O'Brien (Coach), Edward Leahy, Michael Kelly, Adam Daly, Ferghal Curtin, Dylan Murphy, Seán O'Meara, Luke Duggan Murray, Caolann O'Brien and Paul Kelly (Acting School Principal).
The Senior team finished a very creditable 6th in the team event on the day with Eoin Casey leading the way from 15th position. The team members were: Eoin Casey, David Murphy, Joe Millerick, Kieran Walsh, Michael Furlong and James Griffin.
The Midleton CBS Senior Team who finished 6th at The irish Cross Country C/ships
L to R: Eoin Casey, Joe Millerick, Michael Furlong, Kieran Walsh, James Griffin and David Murphy
Finally, a big word for former teacher Liam O'Brien, who continues to give of his time in coaching and mentoring all aspects of athletics and orienteering in the school.
